Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest national park, sprawling across 20,226 square kilometres in the heart of the country — an unspoilt wilderness of rugged landscapes, mighty rivers and open plains. The Great Ruaha River forms its south-eastern boundary and draws wildlife, especially in the dry months.
The terrain ranges from baobab-dotted hillsides and rocky escarpments to open savannah and miombo woodland.
Ruaha has one of the largest lion populations in Africa, along with leopards, cheetahs and wild dogs. Elephants roam in great numbers, and the park is home to buffaloes, sable and roan antelopes, kudus, giraffes and more than 570 bird species, including the rare Ruaha red-billed hornbill.
Game drives, birdwatching, guided walking safaris and cultural visits to local communities. Its remote location means fewer visitors and a truly wild, intimate safari.
Animals gather at the rivers — the best wildlife viewing.
Lush landscapes and excellent birding, with very few visitors.
