Arusha – Tarangire – Serengeti – Mara River – Ngorongoro – Materuni

This is the classic camping route through northern Tanzania — and the trip our team recommends most if you want to see the Serengeti once in your life. You join a small group of no more than six guests, travel with a professional driver-guide and sleep in tents at real campsites inside the parks.
You start in Tarangire among elephants and baobab trees, cross the highlands to the endless plains of the Serengeti and spend a night in the middle of the park, where the only sounds after dark are lions roaring and hyenas calling. After a sunrise game drive you camp on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, then go down to the crater floor in the morning before driving back to Arusha for a hot shower and a comfortable night at the Green Mountain Hotel.
Leave Arusha in the morning for Tarangire National Park, home to big elephant herds, giant baobab trees and lions resting in the shade. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park during your game drive. In the late afternoon, drive on to Mto wa Mbu near Lake Manyara for dinner and your first night under canvas at Twiga Campsite.
Drive up through the Ngorongoro highlands and down onto the endless plains of the Serengeti, with a game drive on the way in. Look out for lions, hyenas, hippos and — in season — the Great Migration. Watch the sun go down over the plains, then sleep at a public campsite in the middle of the park. At night, the only sounds are lions roaring and hyenas calling.
Wake up early for a game drive as the sun rises over the Serengeti — the best light of the day, and the time when the animals are most active. Then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and set up camp on the rim of the crater.
In the morning, drive down into the Ngorongoro Crater — one of the most incredible places on Earth, home to about 25,000 large animals. Your chance of seeing lions here is about 90%. After your crater game drive, return to Arusha for a hot shower and a comfortable night at the Green Mountain Hotel, where your Journey2Serengeti safari ends.
