The northern circuit with four days in the Serengeti following the herds, the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and a waterfall hike near Kilimanjaro.

This eight-day tour takes you to the famous northern circuit parks. You spend four days in the Serengeti, the largest park, known for the annual migration of huge herds of wildebeest and zebras. The itinerary continues to the Ngorongoro Crater for its scenery and game viewing and to Tarangire National Park, known for its elephant herds, and ends with a hike to the Materuni waterfalls on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1Pick-up from the airport

    Airport transfer to your hotel, with an optional Arusha city tour. In the evening your guide briefs you on the safari ahead. An optional sunset hike to Kilima Moto is available.

  2. Day 2Arusha to Tarangire National Park

    Depart at 8:00 for the two-hour drive to Tarangire. Game drives among elephants, baobab trees, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and predators, with a picnic lunch by the river.

  3. Day 3Karatu to Central Serengeti

    A six-hour drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with views over the crater. Optional Maasai village visit (US$10–20 extra). Afternoon and evening game drive near Seronera and the sunset.

  4. Day 4Northern Serengeti

    An early morning game drive following the wildlife towards the Mara River, focusing on the migrating herds and their crossing attempts. Picnic lunch in the bush.

  5. Day 5Mara River

    After an early breakfast, a game drive west to the Mara River to watch the wildebeest gather before crossing. Picnic lunch and an evening game drive.

  6. Day 6Serengeti to the Ngorongoro crater rim

    Early breakfast and a game drive south through the Serengeti towards Seronera. Late in the afternoon you leave the park for the two-hour drive to your lodge on the crater rim.

  7. Day 7Ngorongoro Crater

    Descend into the crater at 6:15 in search of black rhinos and other wildlife. After lunch, a last game drive, the climb out of the crater and the transfer to your hotel near Arusha.

  8. Day 8Excursion to Kilimanjaro and departure

    A two-hour hike to the Materuni waterfalls with views of the Kilimanjaro foothills, lunch at a local coffee farm, then the transfer to the airport for your flight home.
