The Ngorongoro Crater is a natural wonder that should be on every traveller’s bucket list. Located in Tanzania’s Arusha Region and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. It is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world — about 20 kilometres across and more than 600 metres deep.
An estimated 25,000 large animals live in the crater, one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and zebras are common, and the crater is one of Africa’s best places to see the black rhino.
More than 500 bird species have been recorded in the area, including flamingos, pelicans, storks and birds of prey.
Excellent visibility on the crater floor and easy game viewing.
Green landscapes, fewer vehicles and plenty of birdlife.
